The whole underwear-as-outerwear trend? That came from Madonna. Not to mention those ’80s blondes who proudly showed their roots while wearing lace gloves and lots of chains. And would Kabbalah and yoga as lifestyle trends be where they are today without her?

“She’s become an adjective. Friends will go shopping with each other and say, `It’s so Madonna.’ That’s what you want in fashion,” says stylist and TV commentator Robert Verdi.

Lately Madonna has mostly been spotted in workout gear, perhaps in preparation for her “Sticky & Sweet” world tour that will be partially outfitted by Givenchy. Designer Riccardo Tisci has worked up two outfits: a frock coat in black stretch satin and a long cape worn over a black dress embellished with colored ribbons — for a Gypsy-inspired outfit.

It’s hard to say if the Gypsy look will start another trend. The cone-front corset Jean Paul Gaultier created for her Blond Ambition tour in 1990 didn’t fully catch on with the masses.

But whether her looks are influential or merely memorable, Madonna always finds a way to connect with people and she never wears a look long enough for it to become stale, observes Verdi. If the disco revival look of her “Hung Up” era in 2005 clicked with him, her cowgirl-hat days in 2000 spoke to someone else.

“I don’t love all her looks but can appreciate them all,” he says. “She’s always operated from a position that’s a good hybrid of contemporary pop culture — the psyche of the nation — but also an artistic slant and art always pushes the envelope.”

This one is tough, but I would have to go with Beyonce’s album cover because it not only looks high fashion, but it’s sexy and much more visually appealing than Rihanna’s.

Rihanna looks stunning with curly hair but for the second time I have to give this one to Beyonce. Curly hair with Rihanna’s forehead isn’t necessarily flattering but she still is a knokout. When Beyonce wears curly hair is looks more natural and frames her stunning face well.

Rihanna gets my pick with this look. Most people are used to seeing Beyonce with extremly long weaves and lacefront wigs which she has help make very popular. Rihanna takes more chances and she looks like a goddess with this beautiful straight black sleek hair and white low cut dress. Beyonce’s waist length light blonde hair is beautiful but nothing new.

I would have to say this one is a tie. This retro old Hollywood look compliments both starlets and makes it impossible to decide who wore it better. Here is a classic example of how Rihanna’s forhead can actually enhance her beauty depending on how her hair ,makeup, and clothes is styled.

When it comes to taking chances Rihanna is the clear winner. She takes full advantage of different hair styles and colors and isn’t afraid to go short. It is nearly impossible to find a photo of Beyonce with a shoulder length or chin length bob, or anything even close. Although Beyonce clearly takes chances with many other aspects of her style, she almost never takes chances with her hair and makeup like Rihanna does. This photo of Beyonce with dark hair was one of the  few drastic hair color changes she has made in a while, she just can’t let go of the super long hair. Rihanna owns this one.

I’m giving this one to Rihanna yet again not because I prefer her in anyway,  I think Beyonce is more talented and sexier overall. In my opinon Rihanna represnts high fashion and urban chic more than Beyonce does only for again, SHE TAKES RISKS. No one can hold a candle to Beyonce when she is drenched in diamonds in a Versace gown on the red carpet, and she clearly has iconic sex appeal and beauty, but Rihanna represents to me what’s hot right now, and  her body type , ability to morph into other radical looks sets her apart and is more stylish and a natural at setting trends.

The winner is Rihanna, sorry Bey.

The competition goes back to where it all started, New York City, for the tenth cycle of The CW’s hit series AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL, as 14 finalists from across the country fight to make their dreams of becoming a top model into reality. Supermodel Paulina Porizkova joins the panel of judges when the season premiere of AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL hits The CW on Wednesday, February 20 (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET).

I’m so happy one of my favorite shows is back! America’s Next Top Model has slowly grown on me. Like most I was pretty skeptical of the show and the realness of the actual prize and title, “America’s Next Top Model”, since no model has ever acheived any serious status in the modeling industry. But the show is so much fun, there’s good, bad, and ugly characters that makes you want to jump through the tv and give a verbal beat down to some of these silly model wannabes.

 If you stick with the show you can see how the girls either truly learn from the experience or allows their ignorance and bad attitude to take over and backfire in their face. Tyra, bless her heart, tries hard to show many of these models the enlightened way to handle and view every challenge but like usual most of the girls do exactly the opposite of whats expected and they get sent packing. So far one of my favorite quotes from the new season preview clips is when one (black) model tells the other, “You are by far one of the meanest African people I ever met.” , anyway, when I saw that I laughed out loud. If your from NYC that would make you laugh  because in general Africans normally are pretty nice people, so it’s rare to encounter one who is a major bitch. Every now and then there is someone who your just positive isn’t going to make it far and they totally prove you wrong, for example, Natasha from cycle 8, made it all the way to runner up, I was sure her stupidity would get the best of her, but she learned quickly and proved to everyone she wasn’t as dumb as we thought. Also Saliesha winning cycle 9 was a true shock to me. I was more happy for her because she was such a sweetheart, and she gave it 100%, but I really didn’t think she had top model potential, until I saw these photos recently..

She actually looks like Lisa Bonet in the pics. Kinda like Lisa Bonet 2.0, A true model is someone who can morph into whatever the clients needs her too, and that is something Saleisha never had a problem doing and that’s why she won. Yes, she may not look like a runway model but with some more training, she will have the goods to sell high fashion products.

Here’s the basic rundown on the show and the models . The show seems to be pushing this “New Attitude”, “All about attitude” attitude since their now back in New York City, (hence all the attitude overkill):

During this cycle, the 14 participants live together and ferociously vie for the grand prize, competing in a highly accelerated modeling boot camp. The participants’ abilities are tested each week as they strive to master the runway and fashion photo shoots, perfect publicity skills and learn the business aspects of becoming a supermodel, all under 24-hour-a-day surveillance of the AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL cameras. Throughout the series, supermodel Tyra Banks, art director of photo shoots Jay Manuel, and runway guru J. Alexander mentor the participants.

Banks leads the panel of AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL judges, comprised of leading fashion industry experts. Joining the panel this cycle is supermodel Paulina Porizkova, along with returning judges photographer Nigel Barker and runway expert J. Alexander, who closely evaluate the progress of the models to narrow the field each week. In addition, special guest judges appear to critique the participants within his or her area of expertise.

The winner of The CW’s AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL will be managed by Elite Model Management. She also receives a $100,000 contract with cosmetics giant CoverGirl. Finally, the winner will appear on the cover and six-page fashion spread in Seventeen magazine.

AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL is produced by 10 by 10 Entertainment, in association with Bankable Productions. Tyra Banks is the creator and executive producer along with Ken Mok (“Making the Band”) and Daniel Soiseth (“Hell’s Kitchen”).

Aretha Franklin looks so big, and unhealthy it actually hurts to look at her photos. With all this weight she gains each year, I’m shocked to see the poor, and very tacky fashion choices she continues to make. These low cut dresses that exposes her massive cleavage, and leave nothing to the imagination makes any fashionista cringe at the sight of such a mess.

The Queen of Soul proves year after year that she may be a diva on  stage but is clearly a major fashion disaster. I am so so afraid for little Brandy in this pic, Miss Franklin’s cleavage looks like it’s ready to explode out of that tacky dress and give Brandy 2 black eyes!

Pop Diva Rhianna is the latest celeb to jump on the “Got Milk?” band wagon. It seems like the ads are more becoming about the celebrities and less about the actual milk. I get the feeling that when these A-Listers talks to their agents, their like, “Gawd, I can’t wait to get that Got Milk campaign..mymilk mustache ad is gonna look so much more hotter than Carrie Underwod’s.”

All of the huge A list celebrities are actually taking us for fools. They expect us to believe that they really drink and love milk this much? Oh yes, they believe in milk sooooo much that they have to make this prestigious list of celebs who get to wear that frothy dumb milk mustache. They are getting paid close to $25,000 and getting millions of dollars worth of publicity. Okay, so yes the ads are shot by The Great One , Annie Leibovitz , so it makes it pop art, not just an ad about milk. That part I adore. But knowing that hundreds of celebrities tried unsuccessfully to be included in the campaign tells me there is something much bigger going on here besides milk.

It just seems so transparent. My favorite supermodel Naomi Campbell was the the first ad to appear, she wore a tight “little black dress” that barely contained her, and because she was the first she gets a pass. Everyone from David Beckham, Alex Rodriguez, Sasha Cohen, Freddy Adu, Elizabeth Hurley, Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Tyra Banks, Dr. Phil, and God knows who else has appeared in these cheesey ads…

The soccer star - who has three sons, Brooklyn, eight, Romeo, five, and two-year-old Cruz with Spice Girl wife Victoria - was visibly moved as he visited the poverty-hit Sierra Leone, where a quarter of all children die before they turn five.

David, who was in the West African state for his role as a goodwill ambassador for United Nations children’s organisation UNICEF, said: “We can’t turn a blind eye to the tens of thousands of young children who die every day in the developing world, mostly from causes that are preventable.

“In Sierra Leone one in four children dies before their fifth birthday. It’s shocking and tragic, especially when the solutions are simple - things like vaccinations against measles or using a mosquito net to reduce the chance of getting malaria.”

As well as visiting a therapeutic feeding centre for malnourished children, David also thrilled locals when he joined in with a soccer match.

UNICEF worker Lara Schlotterbeck, who was also on the trip, revealed: “The people playing couldn’t believe David Beckham had joined in their game. He was completely natural with them.

“They mobbed him and David took off his T-shirt and gave it to one of the players as a memento.”

Before he ended his three-day trip, David said: “Saving these children’s lives is a top priority for UNICEF. As an ambassador I hope I can help to draw attention to this issue across the world.”
