Rihanna “Gets Milk?”

rhianna_milk.jpg

Pop Diva Rhianna is the latest celeb to jump on the “Got Milk?” band wagon. It seems like the ads are more becoming about the celebrities and less about the actual milk. I get the feeling that when these A-Listers talks to their agents, their like, “Gawd, I can’t wait to get that Got Milk campaign..mymilk mustache ad is gonna look so much more hotter than Carrie Underwod’s.”

milkunderwood.jpg

All of the huge A list celebrities are actually taking us for fools. They expect us to believe that they really drink and love milk this much? Oh yes, they believe in milk sooooo much that they have to make this prestigious list of celebs who get to wear that frothy dumb milk mustache. They are getting paid close to $25,000 and getting millions of dollars worth of publicity. Okay, so yes the ads are shot by The Great One , Annie Leibovitz , so it makes it pop art, not just an ad about milk. That part I adore. But knowing that hundreds of celebrities tried unsuccessfully to be included in the campaign tells me there is something much bigger going on here besides milk.

It just seems so transparent. My favorite supermodel Naomi Campbell was the the first ad to appear, she wore a tight “little black dress” that barely contained her, and because she was the first she gets a pass. Everyone from David Beckham, Alex Rodriguez, Sasha Cohen, Freddy Adu, Elizabeth Hurley, Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Tyra Banks, Dr. Phil, and God knows who else has appeared in these cheesey ads…

World’s Most Expensive Cell Phone

lemillion.jpg

The most sure-fire way to get the attention of tech blogs everywhere is to declare your device “the most ____ ____ ever” or “the smallest _____ ever,” even if the claim is questionable at best. But if you can get your claim verified by the ‘Guinness Book of World Records,’ you’re likely to get a bit less cynicism about your product.

Spring 2008 Couture JPG

coco_rocha.jpgPARIS, FRANCE– Parisian haute couture designers have been diving deep for inspiration this season—literally. Jean Paul Gaultier, like Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel, plunged into an aquatic adventure, though in his case, it was “Little Mermaid says ‘Hello Sailor!’ ” You can always count on for a fun tableau to get things started, so there she was: Coco Rocha, posing on a rock against a watery backdrop with soap bubbles floating up around her.

jpg_spring_2008.jpg

The mergirl-mariner theme made a neat excuse for another of Gaultier’s signature cross-gender mergers. It opened with a couple of memorably chic twists on Parisian classics: a stunning slim navy coat over a striped sweater and sinuous gold-sequin column skirt and a semitranslucent scallop-edged trench that might have been made of fish skin. From there, he trawled the oceans for similes: macramé made to look like fishing nets, plissé inserts suggesting underwater flora, chiffon fronds floating like seaweed, cascading paillettes imitating fish scales or mother-of-pearl, necklaces fashioned into spongiform beads.

It ended with Rocha, making an entrance as the mermaid bride on coral crutches, with a pair of conical shells for a bra. That was a typical ta-da Gaultier punch line, and the couturier was certainly in a cheery mood afterward. “When I started couture, I really thought couture customers were dead or dying,” he said. “But now there are all these new clients. We’re working all the time, and I love it—it’s a permit to create!”

David Beckham’s poverty plea

David Beckham has pleaded with the world not to turn a “blind eye” to dying children in developing countries.

The soccer star - who has three sons, Brooklyn, eight, Romeo, five, and two-year-old Cruz with Spice Girl wife Victoria - was visibly moved as he visited the poverty-hit Sierra Leone, where a quarter of all children die before they turn five.

David, who was in the West African state for his role as a goodwill ambassador for United Nations children’s organisation UNICEF, said: “We can’t turn a blind eye to the tens of thousands of young children who die every day in the developing world, mostly from causes that are preventable.

“In Sierra Leone one in four children dies before their fifth birthday. It’s shocking and tragic, especially when the solutions are simple - things like vaccinations against measles or using a mosquito net to reduce the chance of getting malaria.”

As well as visiting a therapeutic feeding centre for malnourished children, David also thrilled locals when he joined in with a soccer match.

UNICEF worker Lara Schlotterbeck, who was also on the trip, revealed: “The people playing couldn’t believe David Beckham had joined in their game. He was completely natural with them.

“They mobbed him and David took off his T-shirt and gave it to one of the players as a memento.”

Before he ended his three-day trip, David said: “Saving these children’s lives is a top priority for UNICEF. As an ambassador I hope I can help to draw attention to this issue across the world.”

Costello Tagliapietra Bearded Brooklyn Designers

This dynamic bearded duo is the latest hit in the fashion design industry. Jeffrey Costello started by designing clothing for actresses and musicians, then met up with partner, native New Yorker, and Parsons alum, Robert Tagliapietra; together they founded Costello Tagliapietra. Both were taught the art of tailoring by their grandmothers, who, coincidentally, had both worked for Norman Norell in the 1960s.(source courtesy nymag.com)

Costello Tagliapietra Fur Faced Dynamic Duo Designers
If you walked past these 2 guys on the street you may mistake them for nerdy lumberjacks. The pair sports full “man-fur beards”, and proudly rocks plaid shirts and acid wash jeans, so to see them create some of the most delicate and beautiful dresses for women clearly seperates these two from the newest crop of fad designers. It’s exciting to see what they can come up with next.

The pair is known for creating beautifully tailored dresses, constructed jackets, and coats in muted tones, plus an attention to detail both inside and out, with a focus on the draping of fabric that’s finished with bound edges and French seams. Visit Site to view their current collection and previous collections. This is high fashion with realistic wearability. This years collection seems to echo the looks from the 20’s and 30’s Dust Bowl Era. Of course this is done with much more color, and taste.

Heath Ledger 1979-2008

heath_ledger2.jpg

NEW YORK - Heath Ledger was found dead Tuesday at a downtown Manhattan apartment, and police said drugs may have been a factor. The Australian-born actor was 28. Police said Ledger was naked in his bed with an unknown number of sleeping pills near the body. Read the story

I absoultely loved this actor. Just the other day I watched his movie Casanova with my sister the other night and loved it. He didn’t buy into the Hollywood bad boy act and each role he took on seemed more challenging and unique than the other. I love you Heath, and we will all miss you .

Angelina Jolie snubbed by Oscar

a_mighty_heart_jolie.jpgHollywoods most beautiful homewrecker/humanitarian looses out on an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of Mariane Pearl, the wife of slain Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl. I have seen this movie and let me tell you there is no longer any question in my mind if her past Oscar win was just some monumental fluke. It’s very clear she is a gifted actress with the ability to embody the esscence of this brave woman during the darkest moment of her life. Even though we all know how the story ends, Jolie’s performance gives you hope that maybe, just maybe things will turn out another way.

It was nice to see Angelina as something other than a sexy assasian, lust demon, or some kind of manic oversexed drug addict with wanton disregard for other peoples feelings like most of the roles the studios give her. Ms. Jolie humbled herself and it worked in a big way. Too bad she didn’t get an Oscar nod because there was plenty of hype going around for weeks that she was a shoe in for the award.
